17 day tour Day 1 : Montreal/ Tokyo Departure for Kuala Lumpur via Chicago and Tokyo with Japan Airlines. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 2 : Tokyo Overnight courtesy Japan Airlines including transfer if there is no same-day connection to Kuala Lumpur. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 3 : Flight to Kuching via Kuala Lumpur Meet and greet at KCH airport, transfer to hotel for checkin. Overnight at Crowne Plaza Riverside (superior room) or similar. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 4 : Kuching/ Lemanak Longhouse [B/L/D] Breakfast at hotel. Brief Kuching city tour. Then, a 225km ride through the countryside flanked by rugged jungleclad mountains. Stop for lunch at a roadside bazaar deep in Iban country. Longboat ride up the Lemanak River to visit longhouses. Dinner, featuring delicious fresh jungle produce, is served in the simple guesthouse. After dinner, return to the longhouse for an evening's entertainment, and a glass or two of tuak (rice wine) with the longhouse chief. Overnight in the dormitory style guest house with basic amenities. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 5 : Lemanak Longhouse/ Batang Ai [B/L/D] After breakfast, enjoy a blowpipe demonstration. A short walk through the forest accompanied by traditionally-clad Iban trackers. The walk ends at the river bank, where you embark in a longboat for a journey upriver to a tree-lined jungle pool. Lunch is cooked at the riverside in traditional Iban style - all ingredients are steamed in freshly-cut bamboo tubes over an open fire. Time to relax or swim. The return journey is done in traditional style to the sounds of the rainforest. Return downriver for transfer to Batang Ai jetty. After a 30-minute boat ride across the 24-sq km Batang Ai Hydro Lake, arrive at the luxurious Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort. Dinner and accommodation at the resort. Overnight at Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort (ROH) or similar. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 6 : Batang Ai/ Kuching [B/L] Breakfast at the resort, followed by a short nature walk with the resort's resident naturalist. Depart for Kuching via the same route. Lunch is served en route. Overnight at Crowne Plaza Riverside (superior room) or similar. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 7: Kuching/ Kota Kinabalu [b] Breakfast and depart for flight from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu. Transfer to 4* hotel for check-in. Short minitour of the city in the afternoon. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 8 : Kota Kinabalu [B/L] Breakfast and depart for Kinabalu Park for a botanical tour, during which you will climb up to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu at 5,000 ft to arrive at the park. Guided tour. Overnight at Promenade Hotel (superior room) or similar. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 9 : Kota Kinabalu/ Sandakan/ Sukau [B/L/D] Breakfast and early flight to Sandakan. A 30-min drive to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Depart Sepilok and transfer to jetty in Sandakan for a 1-hour boat cruise. After lunch, cruise up the river to Sukau village. Check in at the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge with dinner and overnight. ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 10 : Sukau/ Sandakan [B/L] Breakfast and return by boat to Sandakan. You will have another chance to witness wildlife during this approx. 2.5-hr voyage. Upon arrival at the jetty, you will take the route for the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Temple, where you will have panoramic views of Sandakan Bay. Lunch and transfer back to hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight at Sabah Hotel (superior room). ______________________________________________________________________________ Day 11 : Sandakan/ Kota Kinabalu [B] Breakfast and transfer to Sandakan Airport for flight to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu, transfer to your luxury beach resort. Rest of the day free at leisure to relax or golf.
